Art therapy is a method based on the use of various forms of artistic expression as a pedagogical tool in education and as a means for (inter)personal development through creativity in group contexts. Art therapy is permeated by an aesthetic conception of the human being, seen as a creative being, capable of becoming an artist of his own life, its ethical commitment is to help the subject (re)constitute himself as the author of his own story. It is a way of working using artistic language as the basis for communication. Today, covering the most diverse languages, we will use drawing and painting and the use of recyclable materials to develop the workshops.
What we want to show here is that art is a powerful channel for expressing human subjectivity, which allows an individual or a group to access emotional content and rework it through artistic activity itself. A wide range of themes can be addressed through art. It is a tool that expands the possibilities of expression, going beyond the traditional approach, which is based on verbal language.
The mediation of art in communication has some advantages, among which is the more direct expression of the emotional universe, since there is no sieve of rationalization that accompanies verbal discourse. Furthermore, with artistic activity, we facilitate the subject's contact with their issues through a creative bias, and not only by giving form to a certain subjective content, but also by being able to reconfigure it in new senses. The way in which this process occurs finds different explanations depending on the theoretical perspective considered, but the central idea is this: creative activity as an instrument and art as a path to subjective transformation.
